Amy Lynch is a proud Northerner and self-proclaimed girl geek. She works for ThoughtWorks, and used her 300 Seconds to talk about a topic close to our own hearts; the lack of women speaking at tech events.
Amy’s talk was based on her experience at DDD, a tech conference. Upon arrival, she had noticed a prevalence of “a certain stereotype” of conference attendees. The audience and speakers were almost exclusively white males.
Amy decided to challenge this stereotype, and submitted a talk, which was selected, well attended, and highly praised by listeners. She explained that this was mainly due to her “female” presentation style, which was colourful and visually interesting as well as informative.
She left us with the wise words: “If I can do it, I’m pretty sure anyone can”
